Features: This book is a collection of papers presented at the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum," jointly organized by the Institute for Comprehensive Development (China·Shenzhen) and the Japan Institute for International and Regional Studies in Guangxi, China, on November 24–25, 2005. Since 1995, the Institute for Comprehensive Development (China·Shenzhen) and the Japan Institute for International and Regional Studies have co-hosted nine editions of the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum" in Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Okinawa, Sanya, Macau, Fukuoka, Taiwan, Jeju Island, and Nanning. These forums have brought together officials, experts, and scholars from China, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, the Philippines, Cambodia, and the Hong Kong, Macau, and Taiwan regions. They have collectively discussed the challenges faced by East Asian economies at different stages and have served as a think tank and bridge for the second track of East Asian cooperation. The "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum" has become a well-established platform, and its pragmatic research outcomes have provided valuable references for the decision-making of governments in East Asian countries and have played a positive role in promoting regional economic cooperation in East Asia. As an academic outcome of the "East Asian Economic Cooperation Forum," and to enable more international and domestic individuals to understand the process of economic integration in East Asia, the challenges it faces, as well as its future opportunities and prospects, we have compiled and published the speeches and discussions of participating guests after each forum.
