It immediately caused a sensation, boosting his popularity, and the entire chatroom turned into a room dedicated to "The Exorcist Chronicles." In 1994, the first seven volumes of "The Exorcist Chronicles" were published by Seoul-based Dulnyouk Publishing, sparking a nationwide frenzy. The series continued until July 2001, when the nineteenth volume was published, making it a monumental work. Statistics show that by the end of last year, "The Exorcist Chronicles" had sold over 10 million copies in Korea, where the total population exceeds 40 million. Although only the first three volumes of the novel—A Voice Calling You to Open Your Eyes, The Portrait Paints a Spell, and The Secret of the Grasshopper Sword—are being launched in China for the first time, the magical, martial arts, horror, suspense, and psychological analysis elements characteristic of Korean horror novels are fully evident in them. The work also blends the unique esoteric Buddhism and legendary tales found in Korean culture. "The Exorcist Chronicles" is hailed as the cornerstone of "Korean horror." It follows the struggles of four main characters—four "Exorcists"—against evil forces in the human world. The story narrates how supernatural spirits, ghosts, and other paranormal phenomena torment humanity, and how the four "Exorcists" rise to fight them. Along the way, tales of sages who aid them and villains who obstruct them are interwoven. The four "Exorcists" are highly skilled individuals with extraordinary abilities who have experienced extraordinary encounters. Under no circumstances do they harm humans or use their powers on ordinary people. Initially, they secretly rescue those tormented by malevolent spirits and demons, gradually embarking on the path of "exorcism" and ultimately embracing their mission to dispel evil. "The Exorcist Chronicles" is divided into four parts—Domestic, International, Worldly, and Apocalyptic—with a total of 19 volumes. Each book contains several stories of varying lengths and quantities. These stories are relatively independent yet interconnected. "The Exorcist Chronicles" not only features thrilling and suspenseful plots but also showcases meticulous world-building. The use of Eastern symbols such as exorcism rituals, demon summoning, samurai imagery, and supernatural mental powers constructs a unique atmosphere that blends fantasy and martial arts, enhancing the novel's horror elements.
