Features: Through more than 20 years of effort, the concept of industrial design in China has become no longer vague. Industrial design education has flourished like bamboo shoots after rain. The profession of industrial designers has also gradually established its position in factories and society. With the development of China's economy, the prospects for the industrial design industry will undoubtedly be even brighter. As a secondary discipline, industrial design has a complete teaching system, with inherent connections between its courses. Since the professional design curriculum is a progressive process from simple to complex, many schools divide it into Design (1), Design (2), and Design (3). Design (1) primarily addresses the general concepts and general procedures and methods of design, Design (2) focuses on design thinking and new product development capabilities, and Design (3) mainly involves learning how to conduct systematic design. This book discusses the stage-specific teaching content of the professional design courses, primarily addressing the concepts and general procedures and methods of design. Based on the author's practical design experience and relevant content from other works, it aims to explain design concepts in an accessible manner and elaborate on the procedures and general methods of design. This book is suitable for students in professional colleges who have entered specialized learning, as well as designers in professional design companies, factories, and self-learners. The structure of the book is organized according to actual teaching needs. As a textbook for industrial product design, it is divided into four chapters.
Chapter 1 provides a basic overview of industrial design, giving learners an initial understanding of industrial design and setting basic requirements for themselves. Chapter 2 primarily elaborates on the basic procedures and methods of industrial product design, helping learners understand the work process after entering the design field. Chapter 3 mainly discusses the importance and basic methods of creative design, enabling learners to recognize the crucial role of creative thinking in design and grasp general methods of conceptualization. Chapter 4 outlines the fundamental principles that should be followed in industrial product design, guiding learners to engage in design within a scientific framework along the correct path.
As a textbook for professional design courses, the completeness of the content should be supplemented with design exercises. This is an indispensable part of consolidating learned knowledge. Different learners can determine different topics based on their circumstances, and they can also integrate practical design projects into their learning, following the design process to complete them in full. This will undoubtedly yield significant benefits. Generally, in institutional teaching, typical topic exercises are often adopted, such as: "Design something that comfortably supports a person," "Design a device that can remind people," "Design an object based on the meaning of ' giao'," "Design a tool based on the meaning of ' cut.'" There are many possible topics, and designers should be given sufficient creative space to start with market research and develop their designs.
Regarding design topics, this book does not delve into them in detail, as these are merely supplementary teaching materials by the author of this book. Different instructors may have different perspectives and can choose different topics, as long as they are helpful to students' learning.
