Features: This book analyzes the history, market structure, market behavior, market performance, and public policy issues of the industry, examining its past to predict its future. It also explains the degree of competition and monopoly in various industries. Since different industries have distinct characteristics, the author employs varying analytical methods. The book examines 12 important industries in the U.S. economy, including agriculture, the oil industry, the tobacco industry, the brewing industry, the automotive industry, the computer industry, the film and entertainment industry, the aviation industry, the commercial banking industry, the healthcare industry, the telecommunications industry, and university sports. Among these industries, there are both pillar industries of the U.S. economy and foundational industries, as well as those that are frequently debated in U.S. economic policy. Through the analysis of these industries, we gain a deeper understanding of the current economic structure of the United States. The final chapter of the book focuses on public policy issues in a free-enterprise economy. For each individual industry introduced, the book analyzes its history, market structure, market behavior, market performance, and public policy issues, examining its past to predict its future, and also explains the degree of competition and monopoly in each industry. Since different industries have different characteristics, the author employs varying analytical methods. However, fundamentally, the author still uses inductive reasoning rather than deductive reasoning to explain the surface phenomena and the underlying significance of each industry.
