Features: With the rapid development of life science research, bioluminescence technology has been increasingly applied in various fields such as cellular immunology, microbiology, molecular biology, molecular genetics, neuro molecular biology, pathology, oncology, clinical laboratory diagnostics, medicine, and botany. Methods for preparing various fluorescent biological samples have become more diverse, and the types of instruments used for fluorescence detection have continuously increased in variety and sophistication. Fluorescence technology has become one of the important tools in life science research. This book is divided into three parts: Part 1 introduces the basic knowledge, history, fluorescence probes, and live-body fluorescent materials—green fluorescent protein (GFP)—as well as new fluorescent materials—quantum dots; Part 2 discusses the applications of fluorescence technology in life sciences and the preparation methods of fluorescent biological samples; Part 3 explains the basic principles, operational procedures, and precautions of various fluorescence detection instruments currently owned by the School of Life Sciences at University of Science and Technology of China, such as fluorescence microscopes, laser confocal microscopes, cytogenetic workstations, live-cell fluorescence workstations, flow cytometers, and fluorescence quantitative PCR instruments. Most of the photographs in the color pages of this book were obtained using the aforementioned various fluorescence detection instruments owned by our institution.
