Features: Within the current administrative jurisdiction of Shanghai, this series compiles and publishes old and unpublished manuscripts of local gazettes covering towns, villages, districts, and administrative divisions from ancient times to 1949. If a single area has multiple publications, all are included. Those temporarily unavailable will be supplemented later. During the Republican era, local governments organized professionals to conduct basic surveys on towns under Shanghai's special municipality, such as Zhenru and Gaoxing, covering political, economic, social, and cultural-educational aspects. The entire work is printed in traditional vertical characters, with specific formats for respectful and humble expressions removed and replaced with modern writing conventions. The Luohua Gazette in eight volumes was originally compiled by Qing-era monk Daoyuan and later revised by Zhang Chen. It is based on a manuscript from the Gongdu Lou of Chen's family in Qinghai.
