Features: In higher education institutions, "Automatic Control Theory" is a mandatory course for students in automation, electronic information engineering, and mechanical and control engineering. In their teaching plans, different universities may have various names for this course, such as Automatic Control, Control Theory, Automatic Control Theory, Fundamentals of Control in Mechanical Engineering, Fundamentals of Automatic Control Engineering, or Process Control Principles, among others. To meet the needs of students in these fields studying "Automatic Control Theory," the author specifically wrote this book with the aim of combining the excellent computational simulation software MATLAB with "Automatic Control Theory." The book consists of two main parts. In addition to an overview of MATLAB implementation in Automatic Control Theory, the first part of the book covers the basics of MATLAB computation and simulation, including: an overview of MATLAB 7.1; numerical operations in MATLAB; fundamental symbolic operations in MATLAB; MATLAB programming; common graphical commands and symbolic function graphics commands in MATLAB 7.1. The second part of the book focuses on the MATLAB implementation of Automatic Control Theory, covering: the simulation integrated environment Simulink 6.3 of MATLAB 7.1; MATLAB implementation of mathematical models of control systems; MATLAB implementation of time-domain analysis of continuous systems; MATLAB implementation of steady-state error calculation for continuous systems; MATLAB implementation of root locus analysis for continuous systems; MATLAB implementation of frequency-domain analysis for continuous systems; MATLAB implementation of control of continuous systems; MATLAB implementation of describing function method for analyzing nonlinear systems; MATLAB implementation of discrete system analysis; MATLAB implementation of state-space analysis for linear systems; MATLAB implementation of linear quadratic optimal control, etc. At the end of the book, two appendices are provided: Appendix A lists MATLAB functions written by the author, and Appendix B lists common passive and active compensation networks for reference. This book can serve as a simulation textbook for students in electronic information engineering, electronic information science and technology, measurement and control technology and instruments, optoelectronic information engineering, mechanical engineering and automation, process equipment and control engineering, and material and control engineering, among other fields, to learn automatic control technology (though it is primarily suitable for faculty and students in automation-related disciplines such as industrial automation, electrical automation, mechatronics, process control, chemical automation, power station automation, textile automation, high-rise building automation, and printing/papermaking automation). Additionally, it can also serve as a reference book for engineering technicians in the field of automatic control to learn MATLAB.
