Publish Date: 2006-11-01
Features: The New Collection of the Masters of the Hundred Schools includes works from the pre-Qin to the Five Dynasties period, with a focus on selecting those closely related to the study of philosophy and the history of thought. Some works not belonging to the "Zi" (Philosophers) category, such as Ban Gu's Baihu Tongyi, are included due to their close relevance to the study of philosophy and the history of thought. The entire collection is divided into two volumes.
The first volume includes works similar to those in the old "Collection of the Masters of the Hundred Schools," which are frequently read or consulted by general researchers. Each work selects the best available annotated edition to date. For a very few works without annotations, separate annotations are provided. Some books include multiple annotated editions, each with its own strengths. To maintain consistency in style, except for a few exceptions, only annotated editions written in classical or colloquial classical Chinese are included. Both the main text and annotations of each book are uniformly punctuated with modern-style punctuation, and errors in printing or typesetting are corrected.
The second volume collects works outside the scope of the first volume. Most of these works do not have existing annotated editions. For those that require annotations, they should be provided. The rest are selected for collation using the best available editions.
