Features: In this season of crisp autumn and fragrant fruits, "Turpan Studies" has ushered in another grand event in its development history—the International Academic Conference on "Turpan Studies" and the Founding Conference of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region Turpan Studies Research Institute were grandly held in Turpan City. This is the second international academic conference on "Turpan Studies" since the first one in 2001. On behalf of the Turpan Prefecture Committee and People's Government, I extend a warm welcome to all the distinguished domestic and international guests who have traveled far to attend this conference!
With a long history and rich culture, the region of Turpan is a hub on the Silk Road, a center of politics, economy, and culture. It has nurtured, developed, and flourished the splendid Turpan culture. Turpan culture is the crystallization of the wisdom of various ethnic groups in the ancient basin, the essence of the continuous integration of excellent cultural traditions of all ethnic groups, a historical witness to the formation and development of Chinese culture, and also an important cultural foundation for the current development of Turpan. At the same time, Turpan culture is the result of deepening exchanges with cultures outside the region, including contributions from people of ancient related countries. Therefore, the unique, self-contained, and splendid Turpan culture is one of the important cultural treasures of humanity.
In this treasure trove, famous relics such as the ancient city of Jiaohe, the ancient city of Gaochang, the Beziklik Grottoes, and the Astana Ancient Tombs are world-renowned cultural heritage sites that reflect the above-mentioned aspects and enjoy international acclaim. Thus, Turpan culture is not only Turpan's but also Xinjiang's; it is not only China's but also the world's. This is the very reason why "Turpan Studies" has emerged and become a rising international discipline, attracting significant attention from academic circles both at home and abroad.
Today, nearly 150 representatives from eight countries have gathered here to study and discuss the development of "Turpan Studies," each offering their own insights to promote its progress. We should seize this opportunity, focus on the themes of this academic conference, and vigorously promote a pragmatic, truth-seeking, and innovative work style. Through in-depth research and discussion, we will contribute to building a harmonious socialist society. We hope this conference will showcase distinctive features, high standards, and achieve fruitful academic results.
