Eastern Linguistics, Issue 1

Features: Journal of East Asian Linguistics primarily focuses on East Asian languages as its research subjects. Its purpose is to study languages using the general principles of linguistics and enrich these principles by deriving patterns from the unique phenomena observed in these languages. Linguistics is an empirical science, grounded in the empirical world. It discovers universal phenomena, summarizes rules, proposes hypotheses, forms theories, and provides deeper explanations from a vast amount of linguistic data. As an immature empirical science, linguistics requires more exploration and innovation. From this perspective, this journal is more inclined to raise questions and provide solutions, welcoming new materials, new perspectives, and new interpretations. Journal of East Asian Linguistics offers a testing ground for researchers studying East Asian languages. It is not closed off but rather open to the world. Research on East Asian languages should, like other languages and researchers, focus on and engage in the study of linguistic universals, contributing its unique resources—such as a long continuous historical record, diverse language families, and complex relationships between language dialects—to the development of more general and universal theories of linguistics.
