Selected Short Stories of Hardy

Author: Hardy, translated by He Peng
Publisher:
Publishing Date: Not available
Features: Although the selected stories in this book cannot represent the full scope of Hardy's short fiction, they still offer a glimpse. Except for the ending of "The Three-Gated Pass" which has a comedic tone, the stories themselves are not devoid of humor. The endings of the remaining stories are mostly about loss and death. Part of the reason is that he developed a pessimistic philosophy early in his life, believing that an impersonal and ruthless force, indifferent to good and evil, governs the universe, and humans are mere victims of this force.
