Patient's question:
Bell's palsy, how effective is acupuncture? How many needles need to be inserted?Doctor's answer:
The effectiveness of acupuncture in treating facial paralysis is undeniable. Approximately 5% of patients can fully recover, while about 10% may experience additional sequelae due to individual differences in physical constitution. Except for some patients with mild facial paralysis who may recover without acupuncture, acupoints commonly selected include Hegu, Taichong, Qianzheng Jiache, DicangJiache, Fengchi, Xiaguan, Yingxiang, Chengjiang, or Jiachengjiang. Typically, three or four points are selected per session. In clinical diagnosis, for patients with slower recovery, a comprehensive treatment approach integrating Western medicine and traditional Chinese medicine is usually required.
