Publish Date: 1992-01-01
Features: Ye Zi's prose can be divided into two categories: (narrow sense) and (broad sense). The narrow sense includes works like personal experiences, lyrical writing, and landscape descriptions, such as Reminiscences of Hometown (Huanxi Zaji), Notes from Marching (Xingjun Sanji), and Yueyang Tower. In 1936, Ye Zi compiled fifteen essays into a prose collection titled Ancient Ferry Crossing (Guodu Tou), which was intended to be published by Xin Zhongshu Publishing House as part of the "Xin Zhong Creation Series," but the project was never completed. That same year, Ye Zi revised these fifteen essays along with How I Became Interested in Literature (Wo Zuiyao Yu Wenxue Gengxiang) into Ye Zi's Prose Collection, which was handed over to Commercial Press for publication. The typesetting was already done, but the book was never printed due to the outbreak of war. The broad sense refers to Ye Zi's writings such as prefaces, reviews, memoirs, commemorations, eulogies, editorial notes, letters, and diaries. This selected collection includes most of Ye Zi's prose works, arranged in chronological order based on their publication dates. Another aspect of life depicted in Ye Zi's prose is the rural areas along the Dongting Lake coast, ravaged by natural disasters and human misfortunes. From his writings, one can also discern his artistic views, which were rich in revolutionary and combative spirit, while also showcasing a strong rural artistic style.
