Features: This collection includes some papers on foreign social history written by me and my students in recent years. I originally focused on the history of political institutions, but even while I was researching the medieval English Parliament, I found that studying institutional history in isolation from social history often made it difficult to delve deep. This led me to the idea at the time that, after completing my research on institutional history, I should shift my focus to social history. However, later, although I did transition to social history research, my involvement was limited due to administrative duties, leaving me with very little time and energy, and the results were modest. Nevertheless, I have always encouraged my students to pursue social history research. The students have worked very hard and, with little guidance from me, have largely conducted their research independently and achieved some success. This collection includes 20 papers that cover various aspects of ancient and medieval social history in Western Europe, including research trends, social history theory, daily life, marriage, family, women, and the transmission and interaction of knowledge and culture (to be precise, these fall under the of cultural history).
