Features: On June 2, 1927, Wang Guowei drowned himself in the Kunming Lake of the Summer Palace. The day before, he wrote poems on a fan, including two seven-character quatrains. These poems were later widely believed to be his own works, especially the line "To seek pure land is hard when one sheds the mortal coil, Heartbroken near the high towers, sorrow deep," which expressed a poignant and profound sentiment, easily associating with the life and thoughts of Jing'an (Wang Guowei's courtesy name) and his consideration of drowning himself. Some "learned" scholars even attributed the poems to Li Xishan. In fact, the true author of these poems was Chen Baochen, the last "Imperial Preceptor," while Wang Guowei merely felt moved by the poems and wrote them to express his sentiments.
