The sky was dark. Even though it was daytime, the space with highly concentrated elemental power was drawn by storms and thunder clouds, occasionally emitting deafening muffled roars. The land, which had been bleeding just moments ago, had returned to its original silence, but this silence felt like the approach of death. The wooden palisades, spewing flames, leaned precariously in various places below the city, while the wooden siege engines, still burning, were scattered across the wilderness. Broken flags lay scattered or stood upright, long losing their former majesty, and the scattered weapons lay lonely in the embrace of the earth, as if telling of the brutality of the battle. The only thing missing from this land, which was about to become a battlefield ruin, was the bloodstained bodies of the warriors. However, the rolling thick smoke rising within tens of miles, mixed with pungent odors and a heavy incense, faintly audible lullabies for the souls, seemed to reveal the final destination of these brave warriors who had recently lost their lives.
A black-clad man stood on the war-torn city walls, letting the howling wind tear his robe. Although the silver patterns on his robe, once splendid, were now tattered and barely visible, the ancient names of the gods embroidered in silver thread were still enough to show his noble status. The massive square stones under his feet, mixed with blood and dust, had long lost their original color, but in a few corners, traces of whiteness still remained, showing the majesty and glory of the kingdom before this great battle.
The gates of the capital were wide open, exposing its belly to the enemy. In the direction of the east city, several trails of smoke rolled far away, and faintly, several large black flags could still be seen being proudly waved in the wind, though torn and tattered. The man recalled the scene of his loyal (beastman) soldiers being forced to leave the city about to fall under his strict orders.
"The Grand Marshal has chosen to die with the city. How can we live in shame? Please allow us to fight one last battle!" Several representatives, chosen by the soldiers, declared loudly. Despite being starved and emaciated, their eyes still shone with brilliance. If he agreed to their request, they would surely raise their weapons joyfully and fight against the enemy, who outnumbered them many times, making the enemy pay a heavy price. However, because of his own wrong choices, they had fallen into this situation, forcing tens of thousands into despair. If he drove them further into a desperate situation, wouldn't it be compounding his mistakes?
The man coldly ordered the (beastman) general to form his troops in the city, while he went alone to the enemy camp, risking his life and the legendary three divine artifacts to trade for half a day of the enemy's encirclement being lifted, allowing the survivors of the brutal months of war to escape.
