Features: Sketching and color are two of the most fundamental and important subjects taught in art colleges. Currently, whether it's the exams in art colleges or the foundational training after enrollment, both rely on sketching and color. I believe there is scientific reasoning behind this, as every aspiring artist must train the coordination between their eyes, brain, and hands through sketching exercises. These exercises develop abilities in observing, understanding, summarizing, and expressing three-dimensional forms, as well as their textures, perspectives, light, and shadows. Building on the foundation of sketching skills, or while training expressive abilities, color exercises enhance one's comprehension, summarization, and analysis of natural colors, further advancing to a rational analysis of color expression. These exercises may require a rather long and demanding process.
The teaching at the Central Academy of Arts & Design places great emphasis on sketching and color, as these two courses train the fundamental skills of artistic expression and the foundation of artistic thinking. In this regard, the Central Academy of Arts & Design aligns with other art colleges. However, as an institution dedicated to cultivating design talents, the Central Academy of Arts & Design focuses on the fundamental skills of artistic expression and the foundation of artistic thinking, with the goal of design rather than fine art creation.
To meet the needs of design programs, the faculty of the teaching department at the Central Academy of Arts & Design felt that the existing art foundation teaching model could no longer meet the current needs of foundational education. They deeply realized the need to inject new content into the existing teaching framework and break away from the fixed and singular patterns of the past. To address these issues, some teachers began experimenting with and exploring new teaching methods.
The two specialized collections of sketching and color that we see today are the fruits of their long-term teaching practices. We believe these achievements will attract the attention of more experts in the field of teaching for design programs. I also hope that these works will help accelerate the development of design education.
