Shakespeare was one of the great literary giants of the European Renaissance. For hundreds of years, his works have nourished the hearts of billions, leaving behind invaluable spiritual wealth for the world. His plays stand as a monumental achievement in world literature history, regarded by generations of writers as an unattainable artistic peak. Shakespeare's works, characters, and exquisite lines permeate every corner of Anglo-American culture. Do you know anything about Shakespeare as a person? Have you read his works? Have you watched films or plays adapted from his scripts? Do you want to delve into his works to understand the diverse characters within them?
Shakespeare was a renowned English playwright and poet, born into a wealthy merchant family in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire. He studied at the local grammar school. At the age of 13, his family fell into poverty, forcing him to drop out of school and start a business. Around 1586, he moved to London. Initially, he worked as a stable boy for noble customers in front of theaters, gradually becoming an actor, playwright, and shareholder. In 1597, he purchased property in his hometown, spending his final years there. Shakespeare was the most famous English writer of the late 16th to early 17th centuries (Ben Jonson called him "the soul of his age") and the epitome of humanist literature during the European Renaissance. He wrote a total of 37 plays, 154 sonnets, two long poems, and other works. The purpose of compiling this "Biography of Shakespeare" is to help readers understand him and his life. Since little is known about Shakespeare's life, and what we love about him today is primarily his plays and poems, this book dedicates considerable space to introducing and analyzing his works, enabling readers to better understand his creative process.
