Features: Picasso: A Spanish painter and a major representative of the French modern art movement. Born into a family of art teachers, he adopted the surname Picasso from his mother. He studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Barcelona and Madrid. In 1904, he settled in Paris. After 1907, he worked with the painter Braque on Cubist paintings, advocating that the role of the artist is not to reflect reality through concrete objects but to create abstract forms to express what is considered scientific truth. He adopted a technique of depicting objects from multiple perspectives simultaneously and attached real objects (such as newspapers, matchboxes) to the canvas to achieve a sense of novelty in form. His painting style and techniques changed frequently. In his early works, he depicted themes similar to Expressionism, expressing deep sympathy for figures like beggars, traveling performers, and circus performers. Later, he focused on primitive art, simplifying forms. From 1915 to the early 1920s, his style temporarily shifted toward realism. Starting in 1930, he clearly inclined toward surrealism. During and around World War II, he wrote satirical poems such as Franco's Dreams and Lies, accompanied by illustrations, and created oil paintings like Guernica to protest the fascist invasions of Spain by Germany and Italy. This painting combined Cubism, realism, and surrealism to express suffering, hardship, and bestiality, making it one of his representative works. In 1944, he joined the French Communist Party. Later, he created promotional posters like The Peace Dove for the World Peace Congress. In his later years, he produced a large number of sculptures and ceramics, achieving outstanding success in these fields as well. His works have had a significant influence on modern Western art movements. We are delighted to recommend the Biographies of Giants series to young friends.
