Features: The specimens used in the illustrations of this book are limited to the pottery unearthed from the Erlitou Site since 1980. Due to the fact that the pottery unearthed during this period accounts for the vast majority of the total pottery found at this site to date, it can basically be used to comprehensively represent the overall picture of pottery found at the site since its excavation began in 1959. The basic principle for selecting pottery specimens for this book is the unity of academic value and artistic quality. Efforts are made to select specimens that are relatively beautiful in shape, decoration, and craftsmanship, or are considered masterpieces, in order to reflect the beauty of artifacts and the high level of pottery culture at that time. This is done to meet the needs of readers from different professional backgrounds and to strive for universal appeal.
