In the 20th century, the stage-like development of capitalism and the study of these stages became a very prominent feature in the tradition of political economy research. Analytical methods became increasingly complex, and the scope of analysis expanded. However, the evolution of various schools in this collection is relatively independent, with little intellectual exchange between them. Therefore, this collection has a very unique feature: never before has such a wide range of scholars (each representing important different schools of political economy) published their original views in the same book. The authors of this collection come from nine different countries: Australia, Bahamas, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan, and the United States, representing different academic disciplines: economics, geography, history, international relations, political science, and social sciences, thus giving the collection true international and interdisciplinary characteristics.

To better study and draw on the achievements of contemporary Marxist economic development, further improve the teaching and research of Marxist economics, and promote the development of socialist theory with Chinese characteristics, the National Economics Talent Cultivation Base of the School of Economics at Renmin University of China has decided to co-publish the Contemporary Marxist Economics Translation Series with Economic Science Press. It is hoped that this work will contribute to the development of modern forms of Marxist economics in China.
