How is silicosis staged?

Patient's question:

How is silicosis staged?

Doctor's answer:

Hello! Silicosis can be divided into four stages: non-silicosis (also known as Stage 0), which indicates the absence of silicosis symptoms, Stage 1 silicosis, Stage 2 silicosis, and Stage 3 silicosis. Early silicosis may show no abnormal physical signs. Stage 3 silicosis, due to large areas of fibrosis causing the lung tissue to contract, may lead to tracheal displacement and dullness upon percussion. If there is chronic bronchitis, emphysema, and cor pulmonale in the second level of neurons, additional signs may appear, primarily shortness of breath and a gradual decline in lung function, followed by an eventual improvement in lung function.
