Patient's question:
Recently, my appetite has been poor, and I've been a bit swollen all over. I feel weak all the time. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was kidney disease. Could you please tell me what the characteristics of nephrotic syndrome are?Doctor's answer:
Nephrotic syndrome is a condition where certain causes activate the immune system, leading to the production of immune antibodies. These antibodies cannot distinguish between normal cells and tissues, resulting in damage to the kidneys. It can manifest as symptoms such as proteinuria, hypoalbuminemia, hyperlipidemia, and edema. Patients with nephrotic syndrome require active immunosuppressive treatment, which can be administered through medications such as adrenal corticosteroids. Microscopic inflammation-type nephrotic syndrome can be self-healed with the use of corticosteroids, while other pathological types of nephrotic syndrome cannot be self-healed.
