What should I do about a left kidney cyst with calcified wall?

Patient's question:

During this period, I haven't been feeling well. Sitting for a long time causes severe lower back pain, and standing for long periods becomes difficult. I feel completely weak. After a thorough medical examination, the doctor said I have a left kidney cyst with fibrosis of the cyst wall. I'm wondering how this situation will develop. I'm very concerned that kidney problems might reoccur and affect fertility.

Doctor's answer:

Hello! A renal cyst is essentially a cystic lesion in the kidney. The vast majority of cysts are benign and inflammatory, with smooth cyst walls and clear fluid. Renal cysts with a diameter of less than 5 cm, if asymptomatic, do not require treatment. For cysts larger than 3 cm accompanied by lower back discomfort or aching, laparoscopic cyst decortication or cyst puncture treatment can be considered. The fibrosis of the cyst wall in a renal cyst is a benign change, but it needs to be differentiated from cystic renal cell carcinoma and urinary tract stones. It is recommended to improve the plain scan of both kidneys and increase CT examination. If necessary, cyst fluid puncture biopsy should be performed to rule out the possibility of malignancy. If the kidney is healthy, it will never affect fertility.
