Does gastritis cause obesity?

Patient's question:

Before getting married, I was quite slim. However, after giving birth to my baby, I gained a lot of weight because of severe morning sickness during pregnancy. I constantly vomited and couldn't keep any food down, so I often skipped meals. This led to gastritis, which in turn caused constipation and obesity. What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

Superficial gastritis is generally never likely to cause constipation and obesity, because when prostatic gastritis occurs, some symptoms of malnutrition may reappear. If these symptoms appear, they may lead to a loss of appetite or a decrease in bowel movement volume, which generally makes obesity unlikely to occur. The possibility of constipation is more likely related to other causes, but it is generally not associated with chronic superficial gastritis.
