Black Beauty (Illustrated Edition) is the most popular work of British female author Anna Sewell and also her only novel. It caused a sensation worldwide upon its publication. The author narrates the hard life of Black Beauty in the first-person perspective. It is a gentle, energetic, and strong purebred horse, but fate is cruel, and it changes owners several times. At first, it is treated well by a noble estate owner, but good times don’t last, and the owner faces misfortune, leading to Black Beauty being sold. As it grows older, it is sold again, becoming a rented horse, and finally a labor horse on the streets of London, experiencing all the joys and sorrows of human life. Fortunately, Black Beauty finds a good home in its later years. Since its publication, the book has been a bestseller in Europe and America, influencing generations of readers and awakening people’s love for animals. Like all classic novels, over a hundred years later, Black Beauty has become a global phenomenon, having been adapted into films and TV series multiple times, beloved by both adults and children, and remaining popular through the ages.
