What are the early symptoms of pediatric epilepsy?

Patient's question:

My child has recently had occasional tics. My mother-in-law said she might have epilepsy. What are the symptoms of epilepsy in children?

Doctor's answer:

The types of recurrence are all different. Generally, it will suddenly reappear with symptoms such as staring blankly or sudden physical immobility. This is followed by sudden loss of consciousness, and then muscle twitches, rigidity, and convulsions may occur. It is often accompanied by cyanosis of the lips and face, pale complexion, clenched jaw, bitten tongue, upward rolling of the eyes with a fixed gaze, foaming at the mouth, incontinence of urine and feces, and dilated pupils. The duration varies, ranging from several seconds to several minutes without symptom relief. Afterward, the patient may enter a state of coma. Severe cases with persistent recurrences may experience recurrent episodes of consciousness disorders, emotional disturbances, or even other complications.
