Patient's question:
I am 38 years old. Recently, I feel that my liver is very tired. I haven't had a good appetite, and at night, I always feel a sharp pain in my stomach. I went to the nearby hospital for a check-up and was told it's a liver disease. They asked me to get an injection. What causes ascites in the liver?Doctor's answer:
Ascites is primarily caused by various etiologies leading to the degeneration of liver cells, recurrent inflammation, and ultimately resulting in cirrhosis. In the decompensated stage, it can manifest with different clinical symptoms such as abdominal pain, ascites, hypoalbuminemia, portal hypertension, upper gastrointestinal bleeding, and black stools. Severe expansion can lead to liver failure and hepatic coma. In clinical diagnosis, common causes include chronic hepatitis, alcoholic cirrhosis, and drug-induced cirrhosis, among others.
