Is alcoholic delirium serious?

Patient's question:

I got married to my girlfriend recently, so I let loose and drank a lot. Before, I only drank a little, but now I've been drinking several bottles of alcohol at once. These past few days, I've been thinking that my girlfriend is having an affair with me. Is this a severe case of alcohol-induced delusion?

Doctor's answer:

Delusion disorder and alcoholism are two different diseases. Alcoholism is a disease that affects the body, and patients with alcoholism generally need to be treated with methods such as induced vomiting, gastric lavage, or antidotes for relief. Delusion disorder, on the other hand, is a psychological disease. For patients with delusion disorder, understanding and self-regulation are required. If self-regulation cannot be achieved, psychological relief is necessary.
