Kidney Cyst Puncture Procedure

Patient's question:

Recently, my appetite has been poor, and I've also noticed some swelling in my body. I feel completely exhausted. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was kidney disease. Could you please tell me the steps for a kidney cyst puncture surgery?

Doctor's answer:

Kidney cyst puncture is generally performed under CT or ultrasound guidance, using a very thin needle to puncture into the cyst. Then, some fluid is withdrawn. It is reacted with alcohol to confirm that the withdrawn fluid is from the cyst and not urine, thereby proving that the needle is inside the cyst and not within the kidney. Next, the fluid inside the cyst is drained, and alcohol is infused into it to burn off the inner lining of the cyst to prevent recurrence. The procedure is successfully completed, and the needle is removed after gentle pressure for a short while.
