Can Kawasaki disease recur after recovery?

Patient's question:

Recently, I don't know why I've been feeling uncomfortable in my heart. Although I often take medication to control it, the effect is not obvious. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they also prescribed medication. I'm asking if Kawasaki disease can recur after recovery?

Doctor's answer:

Kawasaki disease is an acute self-limiting illness, and the prognosis is generally good for most patients. After diagnosis, standardized treatment should be administered, and comprehensive health check-ups should be conducted one month, three months, one year, or annually after discharge. If all the baby's indicators are normal and there is no need for coronary artery dilation or aneurysm repair, it is usually believed that the recovery is complete. However, there is a 1% to 2% risk of recurrence. The key is to monitor whether the baby experiences coronary artery dilation or aneurysms again. Generally, follow-up is recommended for about one to two years.
