How long can newborns be protected by the hepatitis B immune globulin?

Patient's question:

I am 38 years old. Recently, I feel that my liver is very tired. I haven't had a good appetite, and at night, I always feel a sharp pain in my stomach. I went to the nearby hospital for a check-up and was told it was liver disease. They asked me to get an injection. I am asking if a newborn's hepatitis B immune globulin can protect for how long.

Doctor's answer:

Not lifelong immunity, after getting vaccinated with the hepatitis B vaccine, it only reduces the antibody response to the hepatitis B virus. However, due to individual differences in immunity and physical fitness, the duration of automatic immunity is uncertain. In other words, getting vaccinated with the hepatitis B vaccine only increases the likelihood of getting sick, but it does not mean that one will never get sick after vaccination. The hepatitis B vaccine also requires booster shots.
