Want to know what to pay attention to when classifying facial paralysis dialectically

Patient's question:

I recently feel that my face is deformed and very uncomfortable, it's so painful. Hello, what should be paid attention to when differentiating types of facial paralysis?

Doctor's answer:

Bell's palsy is mainly divided into two types: peripheral facial palsy and central facial palsy.
1. Central facial palsy occurs when the supranuclear structures (including the cortex, corticobulbar fibers, internal capsule, pons, etc.) are damaged, leading to anesthesia of the contralateral lower facial muscles. It manifests from top to bottom as a flattened nasolabial fold, drooping mouth corner when smiling (or referred to as mouth corner deviating toward the affected side), and inability to whistle or puff cheeks. It is more commonly seen in conditions such as cerebrovascular disease, brain tumors, and encephalitis.
