Patient's question:
I have been experiencing dizziness recently, and I can't eat properly either. My mental state isn't great either. When I went to the hospital for a check-up, they said it was a blood-related issue. Could you please explain what sepsis and vomiting blood have to do with each other?Doctor's answer:
Septicemia refers to a set of symptoms caused by bacteria entering the bloodstream during an inflammatory infection. Septicemia itself will never cause hematemesis. If hematemesis occurs, there are two possible scenarios: one possibility is that the original infection focus is in the gastrointestinal tract, where acute purulent mucosal inflammation occurs. If hematemesis symptoms appear, the other possibility is that during severe sepsis with an overwhelming infection, the gastric mucosa may experience transient cerebral edema, leading to ischemic necrosis and resulting in hematemesis.
