Features: This book is divided into three parts:
Part 1: Core Vocabulary (Days 1–15)
Core vocabulary refers to the most important, detailed words that need to be thoroughly mastered during postgraduate entrance exam preparation. This part is based on the word frequency statistics of past exam papers, compiled using advanced computer technology. The vocabulary is supplemented and refined by referring to authoritative dictionaries such as Oxford, Longman, the English-Chinese Dictionary, and the Multifunctional Dictionary. It is the core, most important, and essential part of postgraduate entrance exam vocabulary. In terms of content and explanation, this part has three major features:
1. Emphasis on Test and Difficult Word Explanations
The new postgraduate entrance exam syllabus lists English words only, without providing Chinese translations, making it difficult for candidates to grasp the meanings of words and increasing preparation difficulty. Many candidates lose points in the exam due to misunderstandings of word meanings. To address this, we focus on solving candidates' learning difficulties by carefully selecting and listing the meanings of test words and the easily overlooked difficult interpretations of key vocabulary, marked as 【Test】 and 【Difficult】 respectively. This helps candidates target their study, break through blind spots, and overcome bottlenecks.
2. In-depth Examination Explanation
In this part, each entry includes sub-sections such as "Reading Comprehension," "Cloze," and "Writing Sentences," providing thorough and in-depth explanations for the three main postgraduate entrance exam English question types. This helps candidates improve their foundational abilities in these areas while mastering vocabulary.
- The "Reading Comprehension" section includes over 600 test example sentences and carefully selected classic examples from various materials, following the principles of timeliness, practicality, and appropriateness. These sentences vary in length, are structurally complex, use natural idioms, and are logically rigorous. Mastering these examples will significantly enhance your postgraduate entrance exam preparation. Candidates can translate these sentences into Chinese first and then compare to identify gaps, thereby improving their reading and translation skills.
- The "Cloze" section is accompanied by prepositional collocations and selected word differentiation exercises, helping candidates understand the key points often tested in cloze questions.
- The "Writing Sentences" section provides nearly 200 high-scoring sentence structures, helping candidates become familiar with template sentences and feel confident.
3. Idiomatic Sentences for Memorization
This part also includes an "Idiomatic Sentences for Memorization" section, where synonyms, near-synonyms, and derivatives appear together for more effective memorization. Alternatively, these sentences may be famous quotes with profound meanings, adding value to your writing.
Part 2: Comprehension-Based Vocabulary (Days 16–18)
Comprehension-based vocabulary refers to the cognitive words frequently encountered in postgraduate entrance exam reading. In this part, the authors minimize test point explanations, using contextual memory methods to help candidates memorize.
Part 3: Basic Vocabulary (Days 19–20)
This part lists the high school-level vocabulary in the postgraduate entrance exam syllabus. The words are presented with phonetic transcriptions and simple definitions, arranged in columns for quick review, allowing candidates to fill gaps, review familiar words, and reinforce forgotten ones.
Appendix: This part includes six major sections:
- 10 Years of Postgraduate Entrance Exam Test Out-of-Syllabus Words
- 10 Years of Test Reading Comprehension Categorized Vocabulary
- Common Prefixes and Suffixes
- Common Roots
- Common Abbreviations
- Irregular Verbs Table
These sections aim to provide the most humanized assistance and practical learning tools for candidates.
