Does choking cause esophagitis?

Patient's question:

I am 34 years old. Recently, I don't know why I always feel nauseous and like vomiting. My stomach has a dull ache, and sometimes I experience heartburn and acid reflux symptoms. I went to the hospital, and it was fine for a while, but then it started again. Can choking lead to esophagitis?

Doctor's answer:

A cough is usually caused by food entering the esophagus. If this symptom occurs again, it can lead to esophagitis and may result in the transmission of bronchitis in the respiratory tract. Timely anti-infection and symptomatic treatment are required. If reflux esophagitis is present, omeprazole can be taken. It is also recommended to take domperidone and amoxicillin for anti-infection and symptomatic treatment. Smoking, drinking beer, and eating spicy foods should be avoided.
