Alcoholic liver ascites, should treatment be required?

Patient's question:

I am 38 years old and recently feel that my liver is very tired. I haven't had much appetite, and at night, I always feel a sharp pain in my stomach. I went to a nearby hospital for a check-up and was told it was liver disease. They advised me to get injections. Should I insist on treatment for alcoholic liver cirrhosis with ascites?

Doctor's answer:

Your father has been drinking beer for a long time, and alcohol-related ascites has reappeared, indicating that it has already reached the late stage of liver cirrhosis. There are no complete cures for late-stage liver cirrhosis, mainly focusing on treating complications and additional clinical symptoms caused by liver cirrhosis. For example, if there is excessive ascites that the body cannot metabolize, extraction of ascites can be used to alleviate the condition, which may increase the patient's suffering. If bleeding occurs again due to liver cirrhosis, medication treatment may be necessary.
