Patient's question:
Over the past few days, I've been experiencing pain in my rectal area, and it even gets damaged when I go to the bathroom. Today, while wiping, I noticed a lump in my rectum. I don't know if this symptom is due to rectal prolapse or hemorrhoids? So, are these symptoms indicative of rectal prolapse or hemorrhoids?Doctor's answer:
Generally speaking, prolapse and hemorrhoids are different. Most patients with prolapse will have the symptom of rectal mucosal prolapse, and in daily life, the weak part of the anus will retract on its own. On the other hand, most patients with hemorrhoids will have obvious pain, discomfort, and broken skin symptoms. Patients with prolapse are recommended to undergo rectal mucosal suspension surgery or circumferential resection. Patients with hemorrhoids are generally advised to have hemorrhoidectomy.
