Features: This book, "Gongxue in the Year of the Monkey," is strongly supported by experts in Chinese folklore. It reexplores, organizes, and compiles existing resources of folk art, as well as other fine arts and photography works. The content, spanning painting, sculpture, photography, seal carving, and paper-cutting, turns out to be incredibly rich. The book adopts the concept of the recently popular "Gongxue film" (New Year's greeting film) and proposes it as a "Gongxue book." Inspired by the advertising slogan "Gifts of health," it hopes to promote "gifts of culture" during the New Year celebrations. Next year is the Chinese lunar year of Jia Shen, the Year of the Monkey, and the book concludes with "Talking about Monkeys in the Monkey Year." It is not only aimed at professionals working in "Monkey culture" but also primarily targets readers born in the Year of the Monkey. There are far too few experts in painting and studying monkeys, but there are millions of people born in the Year of the Monkey. We hope this new attempt will be well-received by a broad readership. Coincidentally, China's zodiac stamps also began with the Year of the Monkey. Our Gongxue book plans to publish one volume each year, starting from the Year of the Monkey (Jia Shen) to the Year of the Goat (Yi Wei), forming a series. After 12 years, when the series is complete, we hope to present readers with a comprehensive encyclopedia that reflects the folk culture and art of different regions and ethnic groups in China. During the editing process of this book, we received strong support from experts in Chinese folklore such as Feng Jicai, Wang Wenbao, Guo Zisheng, Zhang Zhong, and Liu Xiaocun. Artists Huang Yongyu, Han Meilin, and Jie Yang, calligraphers Shen Peng and Huang Miaozi, Peking Opera performer Liu Xiaolingtong, and astronomer Cui Shizhu, all enthusiastically contributed writings, inscriptions, and illustrations to this book. Such a Gongxue book has garnered attention from so many people from all walks of life.
