How to differentiate the diagnosis of neuroblastoma

Patient's question:

The baby has a high fever without nausea, vomiting, or loss of appetite. The diagnosis is not neuroblastoma. I would like to ask how to identify and confirm neuroblastoma.

Doctor's answer:

The pathological diagnosis of neuroblastoma primarily relies on tumor tissue biopsy, and the discovery of neuroblastoma cells in bone marrow can also confirm the diagnosis. The immunohistochemistry of the tumor is positive for neuroblastoma-associated proteins, neurospecific enolase, and synaptic vesicle protein, among others. Genetic testing for NMAKE can also be performed, as significant treatment response may indicate the need for evolutionary therapy. Neuroblastoma needs to be differentiated from other malignant tumors such as nephroblastoma, lymphoma, retroperitoneal malignant teratoma, and rhabdomyosarcoma. Pathological biopsy combined with immunohistochemical chemical staining can confirm that this disease often accompanies anemia, bone pain, and fever, and it also needs to be differentiated from leukemia. Bone marrow examination can provide a definitive diagnosis.
