Features: The authors focus on the rural Jiangnan, meticulously crafting a unique scroll of urban culture. It should be said that people are not unfamiliar with Jiangnan towns. According to an incomplete statistics by a scholar of urban history, nearly 700 papers on urban history were published by domestic scholars between 1980 and 1999, with over 500 regional urban history research papers, of which nearly half were about Jiangnan. However, a closer examination reveals that works focusing on culture or approaching urban community life from a cultural perspective are relatively rare; especially, the strong academic atmosphere makes it difficult for general readers to engage with them. The editors and authors who participated in writing this series are not qualified as scholars, so the authors deliberately blend profound theories into simple language, using vivid writing to interpret elusive life rules, and dynamic images to enliven rigid text. In short, they strive to restore the original state of cultural existence. There are too many famous towns in Jiangnan, and the first eight towns that come into our view are Zhouzhuang, Tongli, Dongshan, Luzhi, Shengze, Nanxun, Xitang, and Wuzhen.
