Dian: A Backpacker's Photographic Diary

Author: Yang Fei

Publish Date: 2007-01-01
Features: Backpackers are an important branch of urban middle-class people. The author wrote this book primarily to reflect the psychology and life situations of this special group of travelers, including their travel life. In addition to the three main protagonists—Xiao Xia, a Shanghai traveler who has traveled to Tibet N times, Azhi, who runs between terminal illness and despair, and me, who runs in despair—the author has devoted more attention to over a dozen backpackers. Among them are the Taiwanese "colorful traveler" Old Kang, the Shenzhen "new traveler" civil servant Old Guo, the doctor traveler from Henan, the Beijing businessman traveler Old Qin, the unemployed Japanese traveler Xiaojian Dai, and Inaba San, among others. It presents a relatively comprehensive sketch of the backpacker community. The author's writing style is primarily focused on authenticity, aiming to break through pseudo-beauty and pseudo-tourist humanism. At the same time, the book also indirectly records the author's own sad (and happy) past in Tibet.
