Will untreated gastric retention worsen the condition?

Patient's question:

I am 34 years old. Recently, I don't know why I always feel nauseous and like vomiting. My stomach has a dull ache, and sometimes I experience heartburn and acid reflux. I went to the hospital, and it was treated for a while, but it started again. Will the condition worsen if gastric retention is not treated?

Doctor's answer:

Gastric retention requires identifying the underlying cause of the retention. If the retention is due to gastric ulcer, pyloric edema, or changes in gastritis leading to gastric retention, symptoms can be alleviated through oral antacids and prokinetic agents. Omeprazole, lansoprazole, domperidone, or mosapride can be used. In traditional Chinese medicine, Xiang Sha Yang Wei Wan can be used to stabilize symptoms. However, if the gastric retention is caused by scar tissue fibrosis, surgery is the only method.
