Is an endometrial polyp the same as a cervical polyp?

Patient's question:

A few days ago, I went with my best friend for a gynecological examination. She went to the hospital because she had symptoms of vaginal lesions. The ultrasound results showed that she had endometrial polyps. I want to ask if endometrial polyps are the same as cervical polyps? Do they both need to be surgically removed?

Doctor's answer:

Endometrial polyps are different from cervical polyps. However, both require surgical treatment. Endometrial polyps grow on the endometrium, while cervical polyps grow on the cervical mucosa. But sometimes, when endometrial polyps are long, they may also extend into the cervical canal or even reach the external cervical os, making them indistinguishable from cervical polyps from an external view. Generally, a hysteroscopy can be considered for diagnosis.
