What are the clinical manifestations of spondylitis?

Patient's question:

I've been feeling severe lower back pain recently. Often, after getting up in the morning, my back pain is so intense that I can't get out of bed without lying down and resting for a while. So, I feel like my body might not be doing well. Since there are people in my family who have ankylosing spondylitis, I'd like to consult about what are the clinical manifestations of ankylosing spondylitis?

Doctor's answer:

Mostly accompanied by involvement of major joints throughout the body. The affected joints cause pain and symptoms related to the joint sites. Patients with hip joint involvement may report hip pain, but some patients frequently report groin pain on the affected side. Recurrence of early hip flexion and limited movement may occur, such as difficulty in squatting or increased distance between the hip and the ground. Cases of pain, swelling, or tenderness involving the temporomandibular joint, costovertebral joint, and sternoclavicular joint are still common. When the costovertebral joint is involved, chest pain and decreased respiratory effort may also occur. Intercostal nerves may also be irritated, leading to intercostal neuralgia and left-sided intercostal neuralgia.
