Features: To sort out and summarize the achievements of prose creation in China in 2006, the Chinese Prose Association recommended and selected 91 outstanding prose pieces from the vast sea of prose works. After careful deliberation and research by a specially formed selection committee, 10 excellent works were chosen and presented to the readers who love prose. During the selection and evaluation process, we adhered to artistic quality, professionalism, fairness, and literary conscience. The judges closely monitored and tracked the prose creation in the country over the past year, reading almost all prose works published in publicly distributed periodicals. Based on a thorough understanding and grasp of the current state of prose creation, they repeatedly deliberated, debated, and judged the value of the works, thereby sifting through the sand to select the best pieces—those with novel and original arguments that broke new ground, inspired thought, and left a profound impact, or those with sharp intellectual edge, sharply critiquing customs and traditions, offering enlightenment and startling revelations. These excellent works were selected and compiled to fulfill the trust and expectations of the times and readers, and to fulfill our responsibility to the cause of contemporary Chinese literature.
