The Furong Town Scenic Area in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, commonly referred to as Furong Town Scenic Area, is a tourist attraction located in Furong Town, Yongshun County, Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province.
Furong Town, originally named Wangcun, is an ancient town with a history of more than two thousand years. It was the capital and royal residence at the inception of the Xizhou Tujia Chieftain Dynasty, a town that carries the glorious history of the 818-year origin of the Tujia Chieftain Dynasty. Because a waterfall runs through the town, it is also called the "Millennium Ancient Town Hanging on the Waterfall." Wangcun is adjacent to the Youshui River, connecting to Sichuan and Hubei upstream and to Tianjin and Beijing downstream. Since ancient times, it has been an important commercial town and very prosperous. Successive chieftain kings built palaces here, held major events, met with chieftains from various regions, and also transported golden-thread nanmu timber rafts from here to the capital for the construction of the Forbidden City and the Ming Tombs. They also set sail from here to the coastal frontiers to resist Japanese pirates. Over time, this place became known as the "Village of Kings." The core landscapes within the scenic area include the Xizhou Chieftain Square, the Xizhou Bronze Pillar Garden, the Tuwang Bridge, the Tuwang Palace, the Waterfall, the Wangcun Dock, and the Five-Li Stone-Paved Street. The scenic area features one waterway, two streets, three waterfalls, four temples, five gathering places, six pools, seven stars, eight scenic spots, nine springs, ten beauties, eleven names, and twelve numbers. It possesses profound historical and cultural heritage and can be called the most beautiful riverside town in China.
In December 2012, the Furong Town Scenic Area in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Hunan Province, passed the review of the National Tourist Attraction Quality Grade Evaluation Committee and was approved as a National AAAA-level Tourist Attraction.
