The School of Journalism and Communication and the Department of Sociology at Nanjing University, in collaboration with the Research Office of the Propaganda Department of the Jiangsu Provincial Committee and the News Center of Jiangsu Broadcasting Network, formed a joint investigation team. They traveled to these top ten model villages (along with ten ordinary villages as a control group) to conduct a large-scale field study for the "2006 China New Rural Survey." This book is a comprehensive outcome of that investigation. It is a field study on the social history of China's rural areas and a panoramic report on the typical Chinese countryside in the journalistic sense. It directly addresses and provides in-depth reflection on the practical issues of China's rural construction, combining immediate journalistic relevance with novel academic rigor.
