How is thalassemia acquired?

Patient's question:

During this period, I always find myself feeling as if there isn't enough blood supply, and I constantly feel dizzy. I can't seem to get motivated to do any training, which is something I've never experienced before. My stomach has become much more bloated, and I also feel uncomfortable in the spleen area. I went to a hospital in the county to have blood drawn for a check-up and discovered that I have mild anemia. What causes thalassemia? Is it an inherited disease?

Doctor's answer:

Thalassemia is a genetic disease. The intermediate thalassemia you mentioned generally presents with mild to moderate anemia. Therefore, thalassemia is a genetic disease caused by a deficiency in the production of hemoglobin. If the father does not have thalassemia but the mother has mild thalassemia, then the offspring may certainly have the possibility of developing intermediate thalassemia.
