Can people with facial paralysis eat bean products?

Patient's question:

My sister-in-law, Pang Ya, is already less than 7 months pregnant, but this morning when she went to bed, she noticed that her right corner of the mouth was (slanted) and went to a nearby hospital immediately. They said she had facial paralysis. The doctor said that in most cases, it can be cured, but a small portion may not fully recover. What are the reasons for facial paralysis during pregnancy? Can people with facial paralysis eat bean products?

Doctor's answer:

Your sister-in-law can eat soy products during her illness. This condition, especially the herpes virus type, can lead to autoimmune reactions. In pregnant women, the repeated use of corticosteroids can enhance the immune system, making it easier for existing viruses to reactivate. The autoimmune effects of the infectious virus may lead to nerve damage, manifesting as Bell's palsy. Special physiological factors in the late stages of early pregnancy may make the facial nerve more susceptible to compression or inflammation, triggering Bell's palsy. Steroid treatment does not seem to interfere with the complete recovery from facial paralysis.
